The Best Area to Stay in Hoi An for First Time Visitors

Old Town is the epicenter of Hoi An and it is filled with history and culture.  Those are the main reasons why it is the perfect choice for those travelers visiting Hoi An for the first time.  Most of the major attractions are within this area, so you will never need to wander too far to see the Japanese Covered Bridge, Fujian Assembly Hall, and the Phung Hung Ancient House.  While there is never a bad time to stay in Hoi An Old Town, the best time to visit is during any of the Hoi An Lantern Festivals that are held throughout the year.

The Best Area to Stay in Hoi An for Travelers on a Budget

Cam Pho is the perfect area for travelers who are looking to spend as little money as possible during their time in Vietnam.  You would still be within walking distance of many of the major attractions within Hoi An, but you can easily explore the countryside from this area as well.  Free walking tours are available in this part of the town and you can do that before grabbing some cheap street food or dining at Thanh Cao Lau, which is one of the best budget-friendly eateries within the neighborhood.

The Best Area to Stay in Hoi An for Travelers Looking for Thrilling Nightlife

It is all about the nightlife over in An Hoi, which is why it is the best option for those travelers who want to spend their nights out on the town.  While there is plenty going on in these streets during the day, you will find that the ambiance changes completely once the sun begins to set.  The Hoi An Night Market can be found in this neighborhood and it attracts many people who are looking for something to eat, as well as souvenirs.  We recommend starting at the market for a bite to eat and then venturing into one of the bars for a night of dancing.  If you have the time, you can also spend a little time walking around the An Hoi Sculpture Garden.

The Best Area to Stay in Hoi An that is Cool

If you are looking for calming quiet instead of the regular hustle and bustle of this town’s streets, you may want to consider staying in Cam Chau, which is known as the cool part of town.  You will find many rice paddies in this area and long walks along the river are commonly done throughout the day.  A couple amazing things to do in this area include taking a bamboo basket boat tour of the river, visiting the Tra Que Vegetable Village, and perusing the art at the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum.

The Best Area to Stay in Hoi An for Families

Cam Thanh is considered the best place to stay in Hoi An for families.  A visit here will have you close to both the main section of town and the local beach, so you won’t have to choose between the best of both worlds.  Once you add in the fact that this is one of the safest neighborhoods in Vietnam, along with the lush water coconut trees and other natural features, you won’t want to be anywhere else.  One of the best things you can do in this area is release a lit lantern in the river, but you may also want to spend a day at An Bang Beach or explore the Thanh Man Fishing Village.  You can also ride in a bamboo basket boat, bike ride through the rice paddies, and learn how to cook a couple traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Each one of these areas offers amazing hotels, hostels, and Airbnb’s, so you will always be able to find the space you require when you are vacationing in this part of Vietnam.  It can be a little difficult to find the best area to stay in Hoi An, which is why we urge you to follow the advice we offer above.  We know this town very well and we would never tell you to stay in a place that we didn’t think was perfect for your needs.  Of course, if two areas of Hoi An look like they could be perfect for you, you will need to make a decision as to why one may be better than the other for your time in this part of the country.
