The Perfect Full-Day Escape from Da Nang to Hoi An

Hoi An Full Day from Danang

If you only have one day to experience the soul of Central Vietnam, this is it. Our Da Nang to Hoi An Full-Day Tour with Basket Boats, Thanh Ha Pottery Village, Tra Que Vegetable Village, and Lantern Release is consistently rated the #1 day trip from Da Nang by thousands of travelers. It packs adventure, culture, food, history, and one of the most photogenic evenings in Southeast Asia into just 11–12 unforgettable hours.

Whether you’re staying in Da Nang for a quick beach break or using it as a hub to explore central Vietnam, this tour strikes the perfect balance between relaxed pace and rich experiences. Here’s everything you need to know before you book in 2025–2026.

Why This Tour Is Worth Every Minute?

Most visitors to Da Nang make the 45-minute journey south to Hoi An Ancient Town — but many only see the town itself. This tour gives you the complete story: the water-coconut forests that sheltered Viet Cong soldiers during the war, centuries-old pottery techniques passed down through generations, organic farming traditions that predate chemical fertilizers, and finally the lantern-lit magic that makes Hoi An one of the most romantic places on earth after dark.

Detailed Itinerary: What Your Day Actually Looks Like?

  • 08:00 – Hotel Pick-Up in Da Nang

Your private car or minivan (air-conditioned, of course) and English-speaking guide collect you directly from your hotel lobby — whether you’re in My Khe Beach, city center, or even near the Han River bridges. No stressful meeting points.

Step into a round thung chai — the iconic Vietnamese basket boat — and glide through seven hectares of tranquil water-coconut palm forest. Your boatman (often a former fisherman with incredible stories) will spin the boat until you scream with laughter, demonstrate traditional crab-catching techniques, and let you try casting a fishing net yourself.

Pro tip: Wear something you don’t mind getting a little wet — the “basket boat dancing” performance is hilarious and splashy.

  • 10:45 – Thanh Ha Pottery Village – Touch 500 Years of History

Just a short drive away lies Thanh Ha, a village that has been making pottery since the 16th century. Walk between open-air workshops where artisans still use foot-powered wheels and wood-fired kilns. You’ll get to sit at the wheel yourself and shape a small bowl or cup with guidance from a master potter. Many visitors say this hands-on experience is one of the day’s biggest surprises. Your creation can be fired and shipped home (extra fee) or you can simply enjoy the therapeutic joy of playing with clay.

  • 12:15 – Tra Que Organic Vegetable Village & Farm-to-Table Lunch

Welcome to one of Vietnam’s sweetest-smelling places. Tra Que has been growing mint, basil, coriander, and lemongrass for over 300 years using only seaweed and compost — no chemicals ever.

Stroll between raised garden beds with a local farmer, learn how they water plants using an ancient pulley system, and even try your hand at tilling the soil with a buffalo plough if you’re lucky.

Then sit down to one of the freshest lunches you’ll ever eat: banana-flower salad, tamarind shrimp, herb-wrapped spring rolls, and grilled fish with Tra Que’s legendary greens. Vegetarian and vegan menus are delicious and plentiful.

  • 14:00 – Free Time in Hoi An Ancient Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

The afternoon belongs to you in one of the most beautifully preserved trading ports in Asia. Mustard-yellow shophouses, wooden balconies dripping with bougainvillea, and the scent of fresh coffee everywhere you turn.

Your guide will first take you to the must-sees with your included entrance ticket: Japanese Covered Bridge (built 1593), 200-year-old Cantonese and Fujian assembly halls, and tranquil Phung Hung or Tan Ky ancient merchant houses

After that, you’re free. Shop for handmade lanterns, order custom clothing (yes, you can get a suit or dress made in 4–6 hours), sip ca phe sua da at a riverside café, or simply wander and take photos — Hoi An is impossibly photogenic.

  • 18:00 – The Magical Lantern Release on the Hoai River

As daylight fades, Hoi An transforms. Thousands of silk lanterns glow in every color, reflecting on the water like a scene from a fairy tale.

You’ll board a small wooden boat and gently place your own wishing lantern onto the river — a centuries-old tradition for good luck, peace, and safe travels. It’s quiet, emotional, and hands-down one of the most beautiful things you’ll ever do in Vietnam.

  • 19:30 – Relaxed Drive Back to Da Nang

Fall asleep in the car if you want — you’ll be dropped right at your hotel around 20:30–21:00, full of memories and probably already planning your next trip back.

Inclusions:

– Door-to-door private or shared air-conditioned transport

– All entrance fees & Hoi An Ancient Town ticket

– Basket boat ride + fun activities
